Event blocks

What are event blocks?

Event blocks let a campaign react in real time to supported events as they happen.

With event blocks, a campaign does not need to rely only on a schedule. It can also start or move to the next step when a specific event occurs, for example when a customer signs up, completes a challenge, or wins a game.

This helps you trigger follow-up actions at the moment they become relevant.

When to use event blocks

Use event blocks in campaigns that should react immediately to what a customer does.

Typical use cases include: - starting a follow-up flow after a member signs up - reacting to a customer's first purchase - triggering a new step when a game is won or lost - sending customer event data to an external system through the Outbound API block

Supported events

Customer events

Category Event Description
Customer Sign-up Happens when a new customer signs up as a member on the platform

A Customer event block can start a customer flow in the campaign.
It can be explicitly published, meaning it will start listening only when it is in active state.

This allows you to design the customer flow and control when to start reacting to events and when to stop.

Activity events

Category Event Description
Game Game won Happens when a customer wins a game
Game Game lost Happens when a customer loses a game
Challenge Challenge completed Happens when a customer completes a challenge
Promotion Offer assigned Happens when an offer is assigned to a customer

For a setup such as Activity → Activity event block, as soon as the Activity is active it may generate events and the Activity event block will react to them.

Note that a Challenge can be used well to react real-time to the customer's purchase behavior. And depending on the campaign's needs, the Challenge can be shown to the customer - communicated to them in the app in the Challenges section - or rather used under the hood, hidden from the app.
Few examples: react on customer's first purchase, their 100th purchase, purchases with a specific payment method or when they bought for 100EUR within a week.

Additional event types may be introduced over time.

Supported activities

Currently, the following Activities can be triggered real-time to engage the customer: - Promotion activities: Game, Challenge, Offer. - Communication activities: Push, Prompt, Banner.

Additionally, Outbound API block can be triggered real-time.

How to use an event block in a campaign

  1. Open your campaign in Orchestration view.
  2. Drag an Event block onto the canvas.
  3. Connect a previous block to the Event block. This applies to an Activity event block.
  4. Connect the block to the next step in your flow.
  5. Save and publish the activities/blocks in the campaign, as desired.

Limitations

  • Activities not supported yet (though expected soon): Feed, Email.
  • Personalized communications in event-triggered journeys is not supported yet.
  • It is not supported to combine multiple event paths into a single downstream step. For example, a campaign cannot wait for a customer to both complete a challenge and lose a game before continuing.
  • It is not supported to apply further customer filtering or segmentation after an event has triggered. For example, you cannot trigger on Game lost and then continue only for customers who spent more than $100 last week.

These limitations apply to the current version and may change in future releases.
